II. Applications:
Analytical Reagent: Used for the determination of calcium, strontium, barium, sodium, potassium, lithium, silver, chlorine, and hypophosphites.
Organic Synthesis Raw Material: Primarily used in the synthesis of isobutyronitrile, an intermediate for diazinon in pesticides. Also used in the production of petroleum additives, antioxidants, 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol, isobutyl acetate (paint solvent), plasticizers, synthetic rubber, artificial musk, fruit oils, and synthetic pharmaceuticals.
Extraction Solvent: Approved for use in food flavoring by GB 2760-96; used to extract lithium chloride from mixtures of lithium and sodium or potassium chlorides, and to separate strontium bromide and barium bromide.
Solvent: Used as an auxiliary solvent for nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, butyral resins, various oils, rubbers, and natural resins.
Caution: Should never be used for agricultural plastics as isobutanol can be fatal to crops.
III. Precautions for Use:
Isobutanol is highly flammable, and its vapors can form explosive compounds with air, posing a risk of fire and explosion upon exposure to open flames or high heat. Decomposition when heated releases toxic gases, and it reacts violently with oxidizing agents. Containers exposed to heat in fire situations are at risk of explosion.
